Are Dental Veneers Right for Everyone?

While veneers are popular and can be an excellent solution for many patients, they might not suit everyone. Some of the important factors we consider are:

Oral Health

Patients must have good oral health. Patients who have tooth decay or gum disease will need proper treatment of these issues before looking at veneers.

The Severity of Dental Imperfections

Dental veneers may not be the best option for severe cosmetic concerns. If you have serious teeth misalignment you should consider an orthodontic service such as Invisalign. Professional teeth whitening can address minor surface stains.

Excessive Wear on Teeth

Commonly referred to as Bruxism and TMJ. These conditions lead to excessive wear on your teeth and veneers. Our dentists can recommend an appropriate therapy for these disorders.

Your Treatment Goals

Porcelain dental veneers achieve a more natural look but are also permanent. Consider dental bonding instead if you are concerned about committing to an irreversible procedure.

How Much Do Dental Veneers Cost in Calgary?

Patients looking to treat one tooth can expect to $1,300.00 – $1,600.00. A set of 6 porcelain veneers can cost anywhere from $7,800 to $9,600.00.

Dental veneers should be considered an investment in your smile and confidence. They are individually priced and depend on criteria such as materials, lab costs, and a practice’s technology. The pricing depends on the patient and their oral health.

We understand that many patients who are unhappy with their smiles avoid consulting with the dentist because they are worried about the initial investment. We understand this and provide flexible financing options to help you enhance your smile.

To help you manage the expenses, we offer in-house flexible financing tailored to your budget and needs. Our team is glad to help explore payments and a schedule that works for you.

The Porcelain Veneer Process

Porcelain dental veneers typically require three appointments at our Downtown Calgary office

Dental Examination

Initial Examination and Consultation

The first step is to see your teeth and hear about any insecurities you might have. We are here to listen to your needs and explain the options so you can make an informed decision about your cosmetic care.

We will perform a complete oral examination, including photographs, viewing of your gums and bite, scans, and x-rays. After we develop a plan, we will send your photos and impressions to our lab partner to create a model of your veneers.

Veneer Preparation

Preparation

If you are satisfied with the appearance of your preliminary dental veneer mock-ups, we will go ahead to prepare your tooth or teeth for treatment. Our Dentist will remove a small layer of enamel from the front of your teeth to make room for the dental veneers. Then, we take new impressions and place temporary dental veneers on the prepared teeth.

Veneer Placement

Veneer Placement

After your permanent veneers are ready, you return to the office for your placement. Our dentist will remove the temporaries and place a bonding agent and cement on your teeth. After, we attach the dental veneers and harden the adhesive under a special light.

Veneer Follow-Up

Follow-Up

After a few days, you will return for a follow-up appointment to double-check your bite and discuss your satisfaction. At this point, if needed, we can take an impression for a night-guard to protect your new smile.

How To Care For Porcelain Dental Veneers

After your appointments, our dentists will coach you on how to take care of your dental veneers to ensure they last as long as possible. We recommend some of the following steps:

Practice Good Hygiene

Similar to natural teeth, your porcelain veneers should be brushed twice and flossed daily. Proper dental hygiene helps protect against problems such as gum disease and tooth decay. Make sure you see your dentist for regular check-ups to prevent and avoid serious problems.

Stop Certain Habits

Putting your dental veneers under excess pressure can lead to fractures or chips in the porcelain. Try to avoid biting your fingernails, chewing on ice and opening packages with your teeth, as these actions can stress your veneers unnecessarily.

Avoid Discoloration

Porcelain is stain-resistant, but your natural enamel is not. Avoid black tea, coffee, red wine, or tobacco, which can stain your teeth and make your veneers look out of place. Whitening treatments can brighten your enamel and achieve colour consistency.

Avoid Grinding and Clenching Teeth

You must avoid grinding or clenching teeth as it can wear down your veneers and cause damage to the porcelain. Our dentists can talk about treatment options that can help you prevent this habit from occurring.

Frequently Asked Questions We Hear

How long do Porcelain Dental Veneers last?

Porcelain veneers can last for ten years or more with the proper maintenance. Although modern dental veneers have increased dramatically, they still need to be replaced in the future.

What are the possible risks of porcelain dental veneers?

Treatment has a relatively low-risk, and most complications are minor. Possible risks can be chipping or the veneer detaching from the tooth’s surface; these can be avoided with proper care. Some patients experience an increase in tooth sensitivity after getting veneers, but it usually goes away after a few days to a few weeks.

What do temporary dental veneers look like?

Most of our patients find that their temporaries look natural and usually are perceived as their regular natural teeth.

How Many Teeth Can I Treat With Dental Veneers?

This decision is different for each patient. One veneer is all you need if you have one tooth with a small chip. Most of the time, only the upper teeth are visible, so we treat the majority of teeth in your upper mouth.

Do I have other options as opposed to dental veneers?

One of the most common alternatives to veneers is dental bonding. Bonding allows a composite resin to conceal chips, stains, and cracks. Although the colour matches, it is not as lifelike or durable as porcelain and will not last as long. Teeth whitening can be another option to have that brightened smile.

What is difference between crowns and veneers?

Crowns and veneers are similar in their design process, procedure, and final appearance; both have their differences and uses in certain situations.

A crown is a thick ‘cap’ that covers the entire tooth. Crowns are either made of porcelain, metal alloy or porcelain fused to a metal alloy. A veneer is a thin cap bonded to the existing tooth’s front enamel surface.

Crowns are used to fix missing, frail, and broken teeth, including damaged teeth that standard fillings cannot repair, for cases such as tooth decay, cracked fillings, and root canals. In addition, crowns can maintain a specific shape and size similar to your original teeth or provide an improved esthetic appearance.

Veneers are treated for those that have sturdy teeth but have visible flaws. Flaws include discoloured, visible cracks, chips, miss-shaped teeth, gaps, and overcrowded or misaligned teeth.

Veneers do not cover your entire tooth and conserve your existing tooth structure. Because of this, they can be easier to replace. In addition, veneers are more cosmetic and can help improve your teeth and bring back your self-confidence. Finally, dental veneers offer strength and durability and can be more affordable than dental implants or crowns.

What are the differences between porcelain veneers and composite veneers?

Calgary Dental Veneers primarily offers patients porcelain veneers, but we also provide composite veneers. The difference is as follows.

Porcelain Veneers are made of porcelain, giving off a translucent quality and natural look. In addition, porcelain veneers can be durable and long-lasting, lasting from ten to fifteen years.

Composite Veneers are engineered from resin and affixed to the tooth’s outer surface. The benefit of composite veneers is that they wear at the same rate as your natural teeth, unlike porcelain which can be more abrasive to your teeth. Composite veneers are more cost-effective, easier to repair or resurface and have a life span of ten years.

Terra Dental Care utilizes a wide-range of dental technologies to ensure veneer patients are receiving treatments that are both efficient and effective.
